A Multi-Case Study on the Mechanism of Digital Capabilities on Transformation Performance from the Perspective of Organizational Resilience
Abstract
As digital transformation continues to deepen, how digital capabilities influence enterprise transformation performance through organizational resilience has become a key topic in both theoretical and practical research. Existing research has primarily focused on the direct impact of digital capabilities on enterprise performance, but the mediating role of organizational resilience and its underlying processes remain underdeveloped. Using a multi-case study approach, we selected three digitally transforming enterprises to explore the mechanisms by which digital capabilities influence transformation performance from the perspective of organizational resilience. The study found that organizational resilience is the result of a natural interaction between the organization and its external environment, encompassing both “rebound” and “forward” resilience. Digital capabilities, as the strategic foundation for enhancing organizational resilience, positively impact both the rebound and overshoot dimensions of organizational resilience. Further research indicates that organizational resilience helps enterprises quickly identify, predict, and assess operational status, enabling timely strategic adjustments and enhancing decision-making, responsiveness, and resilience in uncertain environments, thereby accelerating performance recovery. This study not only reveals the interplay between digital capabilities, organizational resilience, and transformation performance but also provides practical insights for enterprises to enhance resilience and achieve high-quality transformation in the digital era.
