A Mixed-Methods Approach to Social Media Corrective Behaviors: From Antecedents to Outcomes
Abstract
This study explores the social media user journey, focusing on factors that drive reduction and abandonment and the resulting outcomes. Grounded in the Stressor-Strain-Outcome framework and using a mixed-methods approach, we develop and test a conceptual model. Findings show that reduced well-being and privacy concerns motivate behavior change, leading to benefits such as increased productivity, self-awareness, and improved well-being. By integrating qualitative insights with quantitative validation, this study offers a more comprehensive understanding of the antecedents and outcomes of social media corrective behaviors. Additionally, this study provides valuable insights for users, platform designers, companies, and policymakers aiming to promote healthier digital engagement.
