Abstract

Introduction Persicaria capitata (Polygonaceae) is a medicinal plant reported to possess antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer activities. Methods Methanolic leaf extract was analyzed for phytochemicals and bioactive compounds using standard screening methods and GC–MS.Result The extract showed notable antioxidant activity, antimicrobial effects against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli , and concentration-dependent cytotoxicity against HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines, with greater sensitivity in MCF-7 cells. GC–MS revealed fatty acids as major constituents, particularly oleic acid and 9-octadecynoic acid.Discussion These findings support the pharmacological potential.
