Abstract

This review presents recent advances in second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties, with a specific emphasis on Second-Harmonic Generation (SHG) in single crystals grown by the Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy method. Focusing on organic, inorganic, and semi-organic materials, it consolidates fragmented literature into a thematic evaluation of SHG-active crystals. Key influencing factors, such as molecular structure, crystal orientation, and experimental conditions, are critically discussed. Theoretical aspects such as non-centrosymmetry, phase matching, and second-order susceptibility are reviewed. A comparative analysis of SHG efficiency is provided using tabulated data and schematic illustrations, highlighting structure property performance relationships and outlining future prospects for advanced NLO material design.
