Abstract

As museums employ a more robust approach to evaluation, influenced by User Experience (UX) and market research, formative evaluation and iterative work allow for inclusion of participant voice in museum education program development from the outset. As we think about creating a sense of belonging, whether that be in a field (i.e. science) or as part of the museum’s community, implementing evaluation to foster a relationship with the people you wish to serve by including their voices along the way is something that every institution should be doing. In this article, Dr. Kennedy reviews the recent history of evaluation in the museum education setting and gives examples of achievable ways to incorporate evaluation for belonging.
