Abstract

The study investigates energy transition (ET) and governance relevance for environmental sustainability (ENV) and reducing energy poverty (ENP) in developing nations. We employ CS-ARDL and dynamic system GMM techniques, using data from 33 African nations between 1996 and 2024 for analysis. The results show that ET hinders short-run ENV but reduces ENP. However, ET promotes long-run ENV and reduces ENP. Effective governance (GOV) supports ENV and lower ENP. Also, ET-GOV interaction statistically improves ENV and ENP. The study contributes to policies that accelerate ET development in developing economies for sustainable energy and the environment.
