Abstract

Electronic resources take up increasing proportions of library budgets and acquisitions staff time, yet few standards or best practices exist to guide librarians in handling their streaming media collections. Keeping track of streaming media acquisitions can be an unwieldy task, with challenges throughout the e-resources lifecycle from acquisition to maintenance. This paper overviews the challenges of streaming media acquisitions and offers local practices that combat those challenges. The author specifically focuses on problems with acquiring, hosting, cataloging, and licensing streaming media, and addresses the problems from her context at a large R1 institution library.
