Abstract

Fairness and justice are fundamental guarantees and goals for achieving sustainable social development. In the context of low-carbon city construction, re-conceptualizing the meaning and goals of justice in residential district renewal is important. This study analyzed the developmental lineage of established studies through scientometrics; compared related literature in terms of research objects, content, and methodology through thematic critical reading; and revealed the characteristics of the phenomenon of injustice in residential district renewal in the context of low-carbon transition. On this basis, this study proposes achieving differentiated equity in goal setting, strategy selection, and implementation paths in low-carbon residential district renewal planning and design schemes using simplified carbon emission calculations and reasonable district classifications. Specific justice solutions are also discussed for policymakers, planners, and designers.
