The imprint of disaster: executives’ experiences of the Great Famine and corporate rent-seeking
Abstract
Based on the imprinting theory, this study examines the impact of executives’ experience of the Great Famine from 1959 to 1961 on corporate rent-seeking behaviour. The findings reveal that the executives’ experience of the Great Famine significantly restrains corporate rent-seeking behaviour. Moreover, this restraining effect is more pronounced in enterprises with a high long-term investment inclination, non-state-owned status, and relatively low governance intensity.
