Better and bolder: FinTech as a dual catalyst for innovation in high-tech firms
Abstract
This study investigates the dual catalytic role of FinTech in promoting innovation among China's high-tech firms from 2012 to 2024. We provide robust evidence that FinTech simultaneously enhances innovation quality through broader technological knowledge and fosters stated boldness in pursuing high-risk, long-term innovation, capturing managerial articulation rather than realized innovation risk-taking. Using patent-based measures of knowledge breadth and text-based indicators of managerial risk appetite, we show that these effects operate through alleviating financing constraints and strengthening governance structures.
