Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the hospitality industry; however, little is known about its outcomes for non-traditional accommodation providers. Focusing on the largest peer-to-peer platform (Airbnb), this research investigates how Airbnb hosts have responded to and adapted to AI. Findings suggest that AI, particularly as embedded within the Airbnb platform, is restructuring the labour, identity, and power dynamics of hosting. This study contributes to the growing academic dialogue on the role of AI in tourism and hospitality and advances research on the AI impacts in the sharing economy.
