Impact of structural and morphological modifications on photoluminescence of Li x V 2 O 5 nanorods and nanowires
Abstract
A wide range of energy transfer (ET) mechanisms is observed for Li-doped V2O5 enhancements across the visible to IR regions. The Li-ion doping concentration strongly affects the crystal structure, surface morphology and photoluminescence (PL) emission. PL investigations reveal that as the doping percentage increases, the peak intensities decrease, and the spectra exhibit a significant blue shift with increasing dislocation density. Li0.2V2O5 emitted a strong violet-blue-green light, while higher-doping levels (Li0.8V2O5) showed a green emission leaning towards red PL. The PL spectra of these specimens displayed two broad peaks at around 520 nm and 710 nm, corresponding to indirect inter-band and mid-state energy transitions, respectively. Li0.6V2O5 and Li0.8V2O5 specimens exhibit PL spectra spanning from UV-B (middle wave ultraviolet) to the IR wavelength range. The improved photoluminescent properties of these specimens can serve as a route to advanced applications like smart windows, PV-EC devices, and optical sensors.
