A primer in mentoring: Lessons from Dr Yerxa
Abstract
Elizabeth J. Yerxa, a.k.a. Betty, was a much-beloved mentor, scholar, and leader of the occupational therapy profession and occupational science. Linda Tickle-Degnen recollects four lessons from Betty’s mentorship in the late 1970s: how to be 1) an authentic occupational therapy professional, 2) a rebel, 3) a scientist, and 4) a collaborator-mentor. Occupational scientists and occupational therapy practitioners pass along the legacy of Betty’s insightful and inspirational lessons through a global and expanding chain of mentoring new generations of occupational therapy professionals.
