The cuck
Abstract
Considering our contemporary media environment, involving microcelebrities, parasocial relations, and media objects that transcend the screen and visuality, this paper argues that the contemporary porn viewer consumes from a cuck position. The cuck position is similar to the sexual act, wherein a man withdraws himself from a heterosexual encounter with his usual partner to actively watch her engage another man. However, neither the sexual act nor the watching position is passive and/or subordinated. The cuck viewer is active and dominant—the scene unfolding is for his pleasure. A cuck viewership constitutes three interrelated dimensions—homoeroticism, nonmonogamy, and interraciality.
