Abstract

In recent years, educators have experienced a paradigm shift towards more interactive and immersive learning experiences. In this article, we argue for and present a conceptual framework for integrating Extended Reality (XR) technologies into maker education in higher education to support such experiences. We describe the importance of understanding the key concepts that underpin XR and maker education in pedagogical terms and then suggest that a pedagogical framework is vital for effective implementation. The argument of the paper is that new technologies need to be considerate of and foster deep approaches to learning so as to enable students to become critical beings in higher education in a world where extended reality and large language models are changing what it means to learn in higher education.
