A raging urban people at war: a comprehensive defence plan for Taiwan
Abstract
This article analyses Taiwan's strategic situation of increasing Chinese military superiority and United States limitations for deterring a possible invasion by the People's Liberation Army (PLA). It builds upon previous recommendations concerning an asymmetrical strategy by advocating for its integration with Taiwan's extensive urban landscape. It proposes that a strategic posture of explicit and forceful weaponisation of its densely populated cities with part of its regular forces and most of the reserve command in decentralised, but interconnected resistance nodes, could weigh on Chinese calculations regarding the occupation phase of an island invasion.
