Assisted dying or ‘if we've explained morality, what now?’, Steve Ash and making ethics matter
Abstract
In this review essay I set out in some detail, and comment on, the structure and argument of Explaining Morality, by Steve Ash. The book attempts to bring together the work of various critical realists who have worked on or criticized different aspects of moral realism, including especially Roy Bhaskar, Andrew Collier, Dave Elder-Vass, Leigh Price and Andrew Sayer. I focus in particular on the issue of the intrinsic worth of being, and I draw the whole together with an invitation to Ash to respond to a series of questions raised by the moral complexity of assisted dying.
