The Development of Kinetic and Radiation Hydrodynamics Modeling of Thermonuclear Burn Propagation in Isochoric p - 11 B Through the Support of the INFUSE Program
Abstract
Through the support of the Department of Energy’s Innovation for Fusion Energy program, a collaboration between HB11 Energy and the TriForce Institute for Multiphysics Modeling at the University of Rochester is exploring the burn space of advanced fusion fuels. This study summarizes the numerical techniques for collisional and radiative processes developed and implemented within TriForce, a particle-in-cell code with Monte Carlo collisions, and demonstrates thermonuclear burn propagation from preassembled isochoric p-11B assemblies. Understanding the necessary conditions for burn propagation will help inform the laser and target requirements for a future inertial fusion energy power plant.
