Abstract

In this research, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was used to prepare carbon nanotube from a methanol and butanol mixture in the presence of nitrogen gas on quartz substrates at 700 °C and a deposition period of 30 min. The samples were examined using techniques that can identify the presence of carbon nanotubes and some of their properties, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDX), and Raman spectroscopy. The X-ray spectrum shows several peaks at 2θ = 26.12°, 30.2°, 35.58°, 43.26°, 57.32° and 62.92°. The scanning and transmission electron microscopy images revealed the presence of multi-walled carbon nanotubes with diameters 58 nm. Raman spectrum, which showed D and G bands at 1343.46 nm and 1586.13 nm wavelengths respectively, ID/IG ratio (0.85) show the presence of Nanocrystalline graphite (sp2 clusters).
