Free vibration, transient response, and buckling of sigmoid functionally graded material shells with cutouts
Abstract
Functionally graded material (FGM) shells are increasingly used in aerospace, defence, and structural applications due to their smooth variation of properties. These shells often incorporate cutouts for functional or weight-saving purposes. This novel study investigates the effects of cutouts on dynamic and buckling behaviour of FGM doubly curved shallow shells using third order shear deformation theory (TSDT) based finite element formulation, with sigmoidal material gradation. Results reveal that the strategic placement of cutouts markedly alters dynamic and stability characteristics. A Gaussian process regression (GPR) based surrogate model with permutation feature importance (PFI) is used for sensitivity analysis of different parameters.
