Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the free vibration characteristics of graphene platelets (GPLs) reinforced 2D/3D multidirectional functionally graded (FG) nanocomposite curved structure. The matrix phase, consisting of metal and ceramic constituents, is continuously graded using multivariable power law in two (2D) and three (3D) directions. The graphene platelets are dispersed across thickness directions by employing different distributions, i.e., pattern A (symmetric), pattern B (asymmetric) and pattern C (uniform). The modified rule of the mixture is used to evaluate the elastic properties of the matrix phase. In contrast, the Halpin-Tsai micromechanical scheme determines the overall effective material properties of graphene platelets reinforced 2D/3D multidirectional functionally graded (FG) nanocomposite curved structure. The governing equation of the curved shell panel is developed using Hamilton’s principle and third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT9) with nine degrees of freedom. Numerical solutions of natural frequency of the nanocomposite curved panels are obtained by solving the eigenvalue problem. The comprehensive numerical analysis of graphene-reinforced functionally graded nanocomposite curved panels depicts the significance of graphene reinforcement on the natural frequency.
