A new investigation on the vibration characteristics of spinning graphene origami sandwich cylindrical shells with a smart elastomeric core
Abstract
For the first time, the vibration of a spinning cylindrical shell with graphene origami (GOri)-reinforced nanocomposite layers and an electro-rheological (ER) core is discussed based on a higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). The complexity of the problem stems from the derivation of the equations of motion within the framework of this four-variable theory, and it is further complicated by the presence of an ER core. The proposed model is constructed from three layers and exposed to elevated temperature. The inner and outer layers consist of multisheet nanocomposite structures, with each sheet idealized as homogeneous and isotropic and composed of a copper matrix reinforced with GOri. The volume fraction of GOri is graded from one sheet to another according to a piecewise rule. The deformation of the cylindrical shells is governed by a four-variable shear deformation theory, and the analytical solution is determined based on Navier procedure for simply-supported boundary conditions. The accuracy and reliability of the present formulation are verified through comparisons with results reported in the literature. Furthermore, the effects of various factors – including electric fields, geometric parameters, GOri volume fraction, folding degree of graphene, spinning speed, temperature, and core-to-face thickness ratio – on the vibration behavior of spinning nanocomposite sandwich cylindrical shells with an ER core are systematically investigated.
