Digital Transformation of Chain Masters and Local Total Factor Productivity
Abstract
This article examines the impact of Chain Masters’ (CMs) digital transformation on local total factor productivity (TFP). Findings show that: (i) CMs’ digital transformation significantly enhances the TFP of local peer enterprises. (ii) The underlying mechanisms indicate that CMs’ digital transformation increases the TFP of local peer enterprises by improving their quantity and quality of innovation, particularly by fostering breakthrough innovations. (iii) This positive effect is more pronounced when CMs are positioned downstream and for enterprises located in the eastern and central regions of China or within labor-intensive industries.
