Synthesis and characterization of new quinoline containing poly(methacrylate)s with azomethine fragment
Abstract
A new methacrylic azomethine-containing monomers with a quinoline moiety in the side chain were synthesized through the reaction of hydroxy derivatives with methacryloyl chloride. Novel azomethine-containing homopolymers and copolymers with methyl methacrylate (MMA) were synthesized via free-radical polymerization in DMF, initiated by AIBN. The resulting polymers were characterized using 1H NMR. Analysis of the photochemical properties of the synthesized polymers reveals a bathochromic shift (red shift) in the maximum of absorption for those bearing electron-donating substituents. This behavior is ascribed to a modification of the charge-transfer character associated with the π − π∗ electronic transition.
