Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) like Chat-GPT poses unique questions and challenges for researchers, editors, and publishers. Major questions center around whether generative AI should be listed as an author, be used in research, and how journals should monitor its use. However, the question of AI in academic research and publishing goes beyond the logistics of publishing and raises questions about human consciousness, creativity, and potential. As academicians address the challenges and possibilities of generative AI, they will inevitably have to answer questions about writing, research, and human reasoning in a world of AI. This work endeavors to answer these questions about AI and plagiarism, authorship, peer review, and the impact that AI may have on the world of academia and scientific publishing.
