Abstract

Using a team approach to build practitioners’ capacity to plan and implement systemic change initiatives is common among technical assistance (TA) providers. However, research has not examined how TA teams are staffed and supported to work effectively and provide capacity‑building services for human services agencies. A qualitative study explored team composition in a national TA center supporting child welfare agencies and examined how its research‑based approach operated. Data analysis yielded lessons about team formation, launch and development, and learning and support for TA team members. These lessons apply to TA providers working with human service organizations seeking to improve organizational functioning and outcomes.
