Managing the effectiveness of supply chain information integration: a resource orchestration perspective
Abstract
Drawing upon the resource orchestration theory, this study investigates the role of Information Technology Infrastructure Integration and Supply Chain Orientation Management Support as factors influencing the effectiveness of Supply Chain Information Integration on operational performance. The analysis of data from 288 manufacturing firms shows that Information Technology Infrastructure Integration enhances the effectiveness of Customer Information Integration, not Supplier Information Integration. Furthermore, Supply Chain Orientation Management Support is unrelated to the effectiveness of Supply Chain Information Integration but directly improves performance. This study suggests that Supply Chain Information Integration does not improve performance without managerial actions aimed at orchestrating Supply Chain Information Integration. Findings suggest it is valuable to provide Supply Chain Orientation Management Support, irrespective of Supply Chain Information Integration. Managers are advised to invest in Information Technology Infrastructure Integration for leveraging Customer Information Integration. However, as Supplier Information Integration on its own does not show a direct improvement of performance, manufacturing firms should be cautious when investing in it.
