Chloé Delaume After-pop : la culture de fan dans La dernière fille avant la guerre et La nuit je suis Buffy Summers
Abstract
This article offers a reading of two works by Chloé Delaume, published in 2007, La dernière fille avant la guerre et La nuit je suis Buffy Summers, in the light of fan studies which are more broadly part of the field of cultural studies. The author’s very assumed fan posture will be analyzed as a driving force for writing and a cultural clutch. I will therefore expose the extent to which Delaume’s posture responds, in these works, to fan writing, but above all I will show how this rapprochement with fan culture allows us to underline a reflexive and political characteristic of his work, which seems to have been little explored until now: its relationship to popular culture. The two novels explicitly refer to a fan culture, an eminently popular culture at the same time as they are based on a cultural polyphony which is reappropriated/recreated and remotivated by Delaumian poetics. We will be interested in Delaume’s treatment of this marginalized culture, as it is integrated into texts which can be considered as legitimized.
