A compact low-profile antenna design implementing a single-layer anisotropic metasurface polarizer
Abstract
A compact and low-profile antenna with an aperture coupled cavity offset feeding mechanism with a single-layered anisotropic metasurface polarizer (AMP) is proposed in this article. Using a conventional 4×4 arrayed meta-pixelets, the antenna wideband resonance mechanism has been asserted. An AMP consists of 45∘ non-uniform periodic metallic strips whose relative orientation and rotation assists dual linear polarized (LP) waves at lower bands and circular polarized (CP) waves at higher bands. Utilizing this unique strategy, the potential improvement in cavity bandwidth resonance mechanism is controlled by the top loading of meta-pixelets, which acts an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC). While the radiation potential is strategically kept stable with a single-layered PEC–PMC metasurface polarizer, asserting both LP and CP waves. Two similar low-loss bonding substrates are stacked with the cavity coupled ground while a lossy substrate is mounted at the top of AMP, to stabilize the overall performance. To demonstrate its practical feasibility, a prototype antenna of size 1.22λ0×1.22λ0×0.06λ0 (λ0 is the design test wavelength at 6.1 GHz) has been fabricated and experimented to leverage its potential at mid C-and X-band applications.
