Effectiveness of telemedicine interventions in the care management of melanoma: a systematic review
Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Melanoma is a prevalent tumor that requires efficient care management to counter the increasing trend of this disease. This review uses evidence on the applications of telemedicine interventions to enhance the care management of melanoma patients to provide further insight into their efficacy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This systematic review included English-language original articles and conference papers that investigated the effectiveness of telemedicine in the care management of patients with melanoma. The Web of Science (WoS), PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases were searched until May 15, 2025, without any time constraints. The results were presented through a narrative synthesis of quantitative and qualitative data. RESULTS: After database searches, 907 studies were identified, and 12 studies investigating the impact of telemedicine on melanoma care were selected for data extraction based on the eligibility criteria. This review demonstrated that telemedicine interventions significantly improve diagnostic and prognostic accuracy, self-awareness, knowledge of melanoma, and patient confidence. Additionally, it provides timely access to specialists and healthcare services efficiently. DISCUSSION: The current systematic review suggests that telemedicine can significantly enhance the quality of care for melanoma patients, improve their quality of life, and promote health at the community level.
