Abstract

This study examines James Lindsay’s New Discourses podcast to analyze how long-form audio operates as a site of political persuasion within the manosphere. Drawing on critical discourse analysis, it shows how Lindsay recontextualizes Antonio Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony, reframing critical theory as a conspiratorial project aimed at undermining Western culture. This discursive framing redirects attention away from structural power relations and material inequality toward cultural grievance. The analysis highlights how podcasting’s extended, intimate format enables the translation of complex theory into populist narratives, reinforcing ideological polarization within contemporary audio media environments.
