Abstract

From 9 to 11 October 2025, the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) held its annual meeting at the University of Luxembourg’s Belval Campus centered on two themes: technologies of migration and migrating technologies. As co-chairs of SHOT’s Prometheans Special Interest Group, we circulated a call for papers connecting the meeting themes to engineering history. We devoted three meetings of the Consortium for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine Engineering Working Group (which we also co-chair) to presenting works-in-progress on these themes. After receiving interest from colleagues around the world, we organized four panels bringing together fourteen scholars to examine the historical significance of migration in shaping engineering practices and expertise, the significance of migration of engineers in technological projects, and the relationship between migration and engineering education. Here, we report on the Prometheans panels, introducing this journal’s readers to the topics, research questions, and themes raised by the fourteen participating scholars. We conclude by identifying three broader questions that emerged from the panels.
