Abstract

Taking human behavior into consideration is an essential prerequisite in the design and management of public transportation infrastructure. In order to assess the pedestrian evacuation efficiency and capacity within public transportation infrastructure, the selection of suitable pedestrian models in different scenarios is extremely important both in architectural design and developing evacuation strategies. This paper reviews the research over the past 20 years on pedestrian evacuation models applied in public transportation infrastructure, analyzing the pros and cons of each model and its appropriate application in different scenarios. It further identifies the limitations of previous research, e.g. insufficient study on airport evacuation scenarios and optimization of evacuation models. Finally, topics that future research can be extended are recommended, including further study on airport pedestrian evacuation model, optimization of evacuation model, and improvement in the accuracy of simulation model.
