Complementary dipole antenna-loaded bicentric artificial magnetic conductor for wideband wireless applications
Abstract
An intuitive design approach with complementary dipole antenna (CDA) loaded with a bicentric artificial magnetic conductor (BAMC) has been proposed for wireless applications. The complementary resonance effect of the dipole antenna has been further enhanced with a loaded AMC reflector for bandwidth and radiation improvements. A bicentric AMC reflector consisting of an array of closely spaced periodic unit AMC cells successively induce the coupled energy from the complementary dipole antenna source for overall potential performance improvement. The bicentro-symmetrical AMC unit cell response shows reflection cross-over resonance at 6.4 GHz with a maximum peak realised gain of 10.6 dBi. A prototype-developed antenna with an overall dimension of 60 mm × 60 mm with fixture nylon supports at an effective height of 17 mm asserts a 10-dB impedance response from 4.5 to 7.2 GHz with 46.15% impedance bandwidth (IBW) and stable dual-radiation patterns in the principal operating planes. The simulated and measured outcomes exhibit good correlation, leveraging its potential in wideband wireless applications.
