Mushroom-shaped metalens-aided cesaro-shaped AMC loaded cavity confined vivaldi antenna for boresight radiation enhancement
Abstract
This article proposes a unique strategy for developing a vivaldi antenna (VA) augmented with a meta-lens and artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) confined in a cavity to improve boresight radiation. A progressive succession of mushroom-shaped meta-lenses (MSML) has been added to re-direct coupled waves from VA’s elliptical tapered flares to induce into the MSML for optimising focused guided wave. The cesaro-shaped gyrated AMC periodic finite cells are top loaded to uniformly link guided waves from (VA + MSML) at a constant resonant frequency condition, hence enhancing boresight radiation gain. Finally, a PEC cavity has been restricted to increase the bandwidth and radiation characteristics. To support the aforementioned proposed design characteristics, a prototype antenna was developed to operate from (5.1–6.23) GHz with 20% 10-dB IBW, 12.0 dBi as major boresight radiation gain, and maximum radiation efficiency > 81%. The prospective outcomes demonstrate its practicality in high-gain aided wireless systems.
