Abstract

This study examined the experiences related to contraceptive use and family planning among South Asian females in NYC. Representation of South Asians in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) research has been sparse, limiting our understanding of their unmet needs. In-depth interviews revealed three primary themes: internalizing yet adapting to sociocultural expectations; increased autonomy over the life course; and experiences and supportive attitudes related to abortion. The results from this study can help develop comprehensive interventions to better meet the SRH needs of the South Asian American population.
