Abstract

This study explores psychological factors influencing music learning outcomes among Chinese college students. A sample of 100 music students from two universities completed an anonymous questionnaire, yielding 97 valid responses. Key factors—fear of mistakes, self-expectations, and purposeful practice—were identified, with linear and nonlinear regression employed to construct quantitative models for emotional experiences and academic performance. Among participants, 48.5% reported positive learning experiences and 29.9% negative. The emotional model (R2 = 0.9990) and academic performance model (R2 = 0.9830) exhibited high goodness-of-fit (p < 0.05), with fear and self-expectations as significant predictors. This innovative quantitative model system links psychological factors to learning outcomes, offering actionable insights for emotionally responsive music education to enhance student well-being and academic achievement.
