Abstract

This paper reports on a systematic scoping review of research published between 2006 and 2025 at the intersection of information, migration, and economic participation. Searches were conducted in LISA and LISTA, two specialist databases in the information field, to examine how economic participation has been addressed within migrant information research. Although more than two decades of scholarship have produced detailed accounts of migrants’ information experiences in areas such as settlement and social inclusion, economic participation receives far less focused attention. Only a small number of studies examine it directly, and when they do, it is usually viewed in terms of employment and job seeking. Other aspects of economic life (e.g. entrepreneurship, financial systems, taxation, and longer-term economic security) receive limited discussion. By highlighting this imbalance, the paper calls for closer and more sustained attention to economic participation as an area of inquiry within migration-related information research and suggests directions for further study.
