Publishing and Using SCORE Modules in the Classroom
Abstract
In 2021, a group of educators who share a common passion for statistics, reforming undergraduate education, and sports came together to propose the formation of a network of academics, industry, and government partners to build a platform to help educators develop and use case based modules. This resulted in the creation of the Sports Content for Outreach Research and Education (SCORE) Network. The network has over 150 educators, industry professionals, and students who have stepped up to review, create, or use educational modules inside of the classroom. This manuscript provides an overview of how undergraduate educators can use the SCORE modules in their class. We also discuss our innovative review process and show how this helps educators both improve their course materials as well as get citable credit for their work. As we will show, this has allowed faculty who work at teaching focused institutions to communicate their impact in the teaching domain for tenure and annual reviews. We conclude with a call for educators to get involved with SCORE and offer some upcoming workshops for those who want to learn more.
