High sensitivity refractive index sensing with microcavity written by femtosecond laser in no core fiber
Abstract
Abstract This study presents a high refractive index (RI) fiber sensor fabricated by femtosecond laser microcavity etching in a no core fiber segment positioned between two single mode fibers. Experimental results show that the maximum RI sensitivity gradually increases with increasing microcavity length. When the microcavity length is 300 μm, the RI sensitivity can reach up to 4950 nm RIU −1 , which is four times higher than that of the sensor unprocessed by femtosecond laser. The device offers straightforward fabrication, exhibits low temperature and axial strain responses, and holds potential application value in fields such as biomedicine and solution concentration detection.
