Abstract

Abstract We study the coarsening dynamics of a non-conserved n-component vector order parameter in the large-n limit, advected by a time-periodic (oscillatory) shear flow. Using a Fourier-transform approach, we derive analytic expressions for the two-point correlation function and the structure factor. In the late stage of coarsening, we find that although the asymptotic growth exponents coincide with those of the unsheared system, oscillatory shear induces nontrivial periodic modulations in the characteristic length scales and in the orientation of the mean domain.
