Abstract

Abstract In this study, we investigated the effect of the cooling rate and composition on the glass formation and mechanical properties of binary Cobalt-Chromium (CoCr) metallic glasses using molecular dynamics simulations. Three compositions were studied, including one near the eutectic point. Atomic interactions were investigated using the modified embedded atom method (MEAM). The results indicate that the eutectic composition exhibits a higher glass-forming ability compared to that of the others. We also examined the influence of the atomic fraction on both structural and mechanical behavior. Our findings show that the mechanical properties, particularly the Young modulus, are relatively insensitive to changes in the cooling rate. For the composition of Co 0.75 Cr 0.25 , the calculated Young’s modulus values were 261 GPa, 273 GPa, 274 GPa, 275 GPa, and 273 GPa for cooling rates of 10 11 K/s, 10 12 K/s, 10 13 K/s, 10 14 K/s, and 10 15 K/s, respectively.
