Opposite trend dual-band asymmetric transmission in VO 2 -based meta-structure
Abstract
Abstract Asymmetric transmission (AT) has attracted considerable attention due to its promising applications in modern optical devices, particularly in polarization-sensitive systems. In this work, we present the design, theoretical framework, and numerical simulations demonstrating a tunable dual-band AT effect in the near infrared region exhibited by a vanadium dioxide (VO 2 )-based plasmonic meta-structure. The AT effect is thermally tuned via the insulator-to-metal phase transition of VO 2 . In contrast to previously reported dual-band AT effects, our simulation results reveal a distinct dual-band behaviour: as the temperature increases, AT intensity at one band increases while that at the other band decreases. This opposite behaviour is attributed to the enantiomerically sensitive response of the meta-structure to the temperature-driven changes in the optical properties of VO 2 . These findings offer valuable insights into the development of thermally tunable AT devices, with promising applications in optical switching, detectors, and other polarization-sensitive electromagnetic systems.
