Abstract

Abstract This work presents the design of a single-layer substrate, dual-band frequency-selective surface (FSS) with a bandpass response. The proposed FSS consists of a top-layer meandered cross structure enclosed by an inductive wire grid, and a bottom-layer square metal patch surrounded by another metal grid, with the two layers separated by a dielectric spacer. The operating principle of the suggested FSS is explained by an equivalent circuit model, demonstrating strong performance, including angular stability up to 80° and low insertion losses of 0.39 dB and 0.19 dB across the two bands. A wide bandwidth of 3.60–6.16 GHz and 7.52–10.82 GHz under 3 dB bandwidth criterion in the two passbands were achieved, with a fractional bandwidth of 52.45% and 35.98%, respectively. The strong agreement between the simulated and measured results confirms the suitability of the FSS for use in stealth communication and radar systems.
