On-chip multi-bunch electron-positron acceleration
Abstract
Abstract We propose and numerically demonstrate a dual-stacked inverse-Cherenkov dielectric laser accelerator that synchronously accelerates electron-positron multi-bunches on a chip-scale footprint. Counter-propagating 10.60 μm pulses inject four 300 keV, 14.16 fC bunches along a 195.12 μm stacked channel, boosting them beyond 1 MeV with an average gradient of 3.8 GeV· m -1 while compressing their length to sub-femtosecond duration with a minimum compression ratio of 2.1%. Energy spread is sub-0.5% and divergence below 0.03 rad, yielding a four-fold charge increase. Longitudinal phase-space tracking shows stable phase locking and less than 10% relative energy deviation, confirming robust, high-quality transport. A simplified model predicts phase-slip-induced field variation of only 1.73×10 -3 for 10 MeV electrons, becoming negligible at high relativity, and the required 1.54 GW laser power is already accessible. This work realizes the first efficient multi-bunch, mixed-species dielectric laser acceleration, paving the way for chip-scale ultrafast electron-positron sources.
