Abstract

Abstract In order to analyze theoretically the pressure effect on magnetic properties of valence fluctuating systems, we have used the periodic Anderson model (PAM) which is a theoretical model for valence fluctuating systems and calculated some physical quantities including the magnetic susceptibility and the magnetization process of the PAM by the self-consistent second-order perturbation theory. In the present study, it is shown that the magnetic susceptibility at lower temperature is enhanced by decreasing the hybridization energy between conduction electrons and f electrons. Since it is considered that the f electron becomes local with decreasing the hybridization energy and the localization of the f electron tends to be favored by the external pressure for Yb-based compounds, it is expected that the magnetic susceptibility of Yb-based valence fluctuating compounds at lower temperature is enhanced with increasing pressure.
