Modification of the Jiles-Atherton model for ferromagnetic hysteresis
Abstract
Abstract The Jiles-Atherton (J-A) model has been widely adopted in coupled magneto-mechanical constitutive modeling to characterize the magnetization behavior of ferromagnetic materials under stress and external magnetic fields. However, existing implementations of the J-A model neglect the influence of domain wall thickness, leading to systematically overestimated magnetization values and insufficient accuracy in capturing stress-dependent magnetization phenomena. This study presents a refined J-A model through critical revisions of the anhysteretic magnetization formulation, pinning effect description, and magnetostriction coefficient integration. The enhanced model was rigorously evaluated against classical J-A predictions and experimental data from authoritative literature. Results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves significantly improved agreement with experimental measurements, providing a more faithful representation of the magneto-mechanical constitutive behavior in ferromagnetic materials. Furthermore, the revised model was employed to simulate hysteresis loops under cyclic magnetization conditions and to investigate the evolution of reversible and irreversible magnetization components under varying stress levels. These analyses offer deepened insights into the micro-magnetic mechanisms governing stress-magnetization interactions.
