Abstract

Abstract This study presents a probabilistic framework for investigating the mechanical properties of particulate nanocomposites using a stochastic finite element method (SFEM). The uncertainties in material properties, such as particle size, particle dispersion, interaction zone thickness and properties, as well as fluctuation level are modeled through random variables to capture their impact on the nanocomposite’s apparent macroscopic mechanical behavior. A Monte Carlo-based SFEM approach is employed to simulate the stochastic response of the composite under various loading conditions for homogenization. Statistical analyses highlight the influence of stochastic parameters on macroscopic performance, providing insights into the reliability and robustness of the nanocomposite. The results demonstrate that the proposed probabilistic model effectively quantifies uncertainties and offers a computationally efficient tool for investigating nanocomposites.
