Abstract

Abstract The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) is a multipurpose particle detector operating on the International Space Station. A new silicon micro-strip detector is planned to be installed on AMS-02, which increases the acceptance of cosmic rays by 300% and improves the particle identification ability. An automatic and high-precision gantry system and wire bonding system were developed to construct the detector ladders, which are basic modules to construct the detector. Quality control routines were implemented to ensure a consistent delivery of high-quality ladders. In total, 72 flight model (FM) ladders and 4 flight spare (FS) ladders have been successfully produced. Assembly precision of 3.4 μm is achieved for all the ladders.
