Abstract

Abstract The Near Detector complex in future long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments will play a crucial role in constraining systematic uncertainties in oscillation measurements and enabling a broad program of precision studies. Several R&D activities on tracking system prototypes are currently underway to develop potential solutions for Near Detector components capable of reducing uncertainties in neutrino fluxes and neutrino-nucleus interactions. To this purpose a tracking system based on low-density gas detector with thin passive target layers of several material was proposed. The proposed tracking detector is composed of solid polypropylene targets interspersed with three stations of drift chambers with alternated signal and field wires and filled with Ar/CO 2 gas. In this paper the development and the status of the test of a drift chamber prototype are presented.
